（KCRA3）Supporting local businesses could be more important to their survival than ever as many have taken huge financial hits during the coronavirus pandemic.

That’s why a Folsom woman came up with a creative idea to support small, local businesses during the holiday shopping season.

Kimberly Morphis, a Folsom resident and local commercial realtor, said she created the concept for “95630 Bingo” as a way to prove that locals are spending their money in town and to give people an incentive to shop local throughout the holiday season — the idea being -- getting eyes on/dollars into local stores.

“This is a way for people to go out and actually put their money where their heart is and shop these local businesses and be able to post about it,” said Morphis. “[It’s] an organic, natural way for them to get more sales, increase sales and increase their social media as well.”

There are 24 businesses from across Folsom featured on the bingo card. Here’s here's how the game works:

1.Players make a minimum $5 donation to the Twin Lakes Food Bank.

2.Email proof of food bank donation to kimberly@morphiscre.com and Morphis will send you a bingo card.

The gamer who fills out the standard, five-by-five bingo card first wins a $1,000 cash prize.

There is no “free space” as the center square. The 95630 Bingo card’s center square requires players to do a Google or Yelp review on three of the shops, which helps businesses get seen on social media and via internet searches.

“There's no square that's less than $20. I really wanted it to be, you know, not just like a $5, ‘Hey I'm gonna go get a drip coffee,’” explained Morphis. “Buy your coffee, buy a breakfast sandwich, and hey, go ahead and buy the person standing behind you... buy their cup of coffee, too.”

Morphis believes the community will step up to help with this endeavor.

“What sets Folsom apart is that community base. We rally behind each other. We really dive-deep into the philanthropic element,” she said, pointing toward how larger businesses frequently give back to the community by supporting their smaller counterparts and youth sports teams through event and program sponsorships.

The 95630 Bingo game runs now through Dec. 24, with the winner of the $1,000 cash prize being announced no later than Dec. 26.

On the 95630 Bingo website, Morphis said she wants her son to grow up with all their favorite local retailers and restaurants still in town, and she said it feels great to be contributing in this way to their survival.
