Sacramento has launched a free technical assistance program to support small businesses though the pandemic.

The $7 million Small Business Recovery Technical Assistance Program is open to all businesses in the city and will provide them with access to resources to increase their resiliency to the economic impacts of Covid-19, the city said in a news release Monday.

“Small businesses trying to recover from the Covid-19 shutdown will emerge on a stronger footing if they’re advised by experts who can help them formulate business plans, obtain financing and market their products,” Mayor Darrell Steinberg said in the news release. “With this and our other CARES Act-funded programs, we are paying particular attention to assisting businesses in underserved neighborhoods that have historically had less access to capital.”

The businesses targeted with one-on-one training will have 25 or fewer employees, but the seminars and webinars can be accessed by most businesses, the city said.

The city contracted with the Sacramento Metropolitan Chamber, the Asian-Pacific Chamber of Commerce, the Downtown Sacramento Partnership, California Capital Financial Development Corp., Berkeley Strategy Advisors, the Black Small Business Association of California, Streetsense, Alchemist CDC and Erica Castillo Consulting to provide the consulting services. Those services include one-on-one consulting, website consulting, business plan development and loan document preparation support.

There also will be seminars on best practices for Covid-19 workplace safety and employee training. More than 20 topics will be offered, including industry-specific information for retail, hospitality, restaurants, bars, fitness businesses and others, said city spokeswoman Jennifer Singer.
