(KCRA)Containment continues to grow on a group of wildfires that have chewed through hundreds of thousands of acres in five Northern California counties. Officials are also continuing to repopulate evacuation zones and update the count of homes destroyed.

As of Sunday, the fires, called the LNU Lightning Complex, had consumed 375,209 acres with 91% containment, Cal Fire reported.

The fires have destroyed 1,491 structures and damaged 232 others, Cal Fire said.

The LNU Lightning Complex fires ignited 6:40 a.m. Aug. 17 due to lightning strikes in Napa and Sonoma counties. The fires then spread to Lake, Solano and Yolo counties.

Five people have been killed in the LNU Lightning Complex fires, Cal Fire said. Three Napa County residents and two Solano County residents have died. Four others were injured, Cal Fire said.

The complex is now the third largest wildfire incident in California history, scorching slightly less than the SCU Lightning Complex but more than the Thomas Fire, which consumed 281,893 acres in Ventura and Santa Barbara counties in December 2017, according to Cal Fire records.

Thousands of people were evacuated in the five counties due to the wildfires.

On Monday, Yolo County officials lifted or downgraded mandatory evacuations near Rumsey. Officials are repopulating some parts of the evacuation zones.

Yolo County residents are urged by officials to sign up for emergency alerts here.

The fire prompted mandatory evacuations of Travis Air Force Base in Fairfield on Aug. 19. The evacuations were lifted two days later.

Cal Fire said Friday that crews are continuing to build containment lines as neighborhoods are repopulated.

Dry and hot weather is predicted and southwest winds are expected today in the area," Cal Fire said in its Friday morning incident report. "Interior islands deep within the fires perimeter may occasionally flare up."

After igniting last month, the fires kicked up the night of Aug. 18, the Vacaville Fire Department said. There were winds up to 30 mph that pushed the flames from Napa County into the outskirts of downtown Vacaville — right up to the backs of homes.

By the night of Aug. 19, four of the wildfires had merged into one — the Hennessey Fire. The fire started near Hennessey Ridge Road in Napa County and has consumed 317,909 acres with 88% containment.

Last week, the fire burning in Yolo County jumped the fire line at Highway 16, threatening nearby small towns. A KCRA 3 crew at the scene of the fire said flames engulfed both sides of the highway.

More than 2,000 fire personnel are fighting the flames.
