Her south Sacramento home has been the site of an infestation of large cockroaches.

"The calls coming in for new services are breaking records," Darren Van Steenwyk of Clark Pest Control told KCRA 3. "It's to the point where we can't keep up."

Why the sudden surge of bugs in the area, especially cockroaches and spiders?

Two reasons: there are more bugs, and it's really hot outside.

"That temperature is causing those insects to develop faster, which means they have to eat more in a very short amount of time, and they have to find other insects to make more insects," he says.

He says the Turkestan cockroach, seen at Mahmood's home, has become more common this year.

Clark Pest Control says they are an invasive species and are displacing the current dominant species because they also repopulate at a faster rate.

Clark Pest Control says with so many calls for help, you shouldn't expect somebody to come to your home the same day. They are booking appointments one to two days out.
