The Sacramento City Council approved moving forward with a new development project in partnership with UC Davis.

Council members unanimously voted during a meeting Tuesday night to start an enhanced infrastructure financing district (EIFD) to help with the construction of the first phase of Aggie Square, according to the mayor’s office.
据市长办公室称，在周二晚上的会议上，议会成员一致投票决定启动一个增强型基础设施金融区(EIFD)，以帮助Aggie Square一期的建设。
The Aggie Square innovation and research district is planned for along Stockton Boulevard. The area, which is about 42 acres, is largely made up of properties already owned by UC Davis.

The mayor’s office said the city will provide $30 million in funding from the EIFD for construction.

“In addition, at least 20% of the property taxes generated by the development in the coming decades would be slated for affordable housing — an amount expected to total about $37 million,” the office said in a statement Tuesday night.

City council members will have several more votes on the project in the coming months, including negotiating the terms of the EIFD with UC Davis and the developer, Wexford Science and Technology.

“Mayor (Darrell) Steinberg and members of the City Council have also pledged to adopt a community benefit agreement that will ensure that residents and businesses in the surrounding Stockton Boulevard corridor benefit from Aggie Square through training and educational opportunities, jobs and affordable housing, among other community priorities,” the mayor’s office said. “This benefits agreement will be brought to Council at the same time it takes its next action on the EIFD, which is expected in January.”

UC Davis said the statement it is working to increase access to the UC Davis Sacramento campus for neighborhood residents by holding a virtual job fair. A job fair is planned for Wednesday.
