Evacuations have been ordered Sunday afternoon for a wildfire in Colusa County with a “dangerous rate of spread.”

The Sites Fire started just after 4 p.m. near Sites Lodoga and Campground roads, southeast of Stonyford, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection’s Sonoma-Lake-Napa unit.

The fire, which quickly leaped to more than 200 acres, prompted the evacuation of several rural homes on Sites Lodoga and Squaw Creek roads. A spokesman for Cal Fire did not immediately know the number of homes affected by the evacuation order.

The fire is burning in a remote area near the East Park Reservoir, 20 miles southeast of Williams and 70 miles southeast of Sacramento. Views from the AlertWildfire network showed smoke from heavy brush consumed by the fire spilling west toward Stonyford, which is not threatened. Smoke was also drifting into the valley and could be seen from cameras outside of Chico, about 40 miles northeast of the fire.

Cal Fire’s LNU crews reported a “dangerous ROS” (or rate of spread) as more than a half-dozen firefighting aircraft were deployed to fight the blaze.
