California leaders announced Wednesday that the COVID-19 omicron variant was detected in the Golden State, making it the first known case in the country.

The La Familia Counseling Center in Sacramento is working to encourage vaccinations in area communities with low vaccination rates.

Wednesday night, around 30 people were vaccinated in just two hours inside Sacramento's Viva Supermarket thanks to a partnership between the market, La Familia, and UC Davis Health.

"It's important to meet our community where they are at," Mao Vang, a health program manager with La Familia, told KCRA 3. She said convenience is key.

Stephanie Fields Ketchum works next to the supermarket and didn't know the clinic was happening Wednesday night until she walked by.
