A weekend red flag warning is being issued for the Sacramento region due to expected high winds and dry conditions.

The warning is prompted by critical fire weather conditions and is in effect through Monday afternoon, the National Weather Service in Sacramento announced.

KCRA 3's chief meteorologist Mark Finan said that north winds will be gusty over the weekend, especially on the west side of the Sacramento Valley where they could gust over 35 mph.

The issue is that any grass fire that starts can spread quickly due to dry fuels.
