(KCRA3)One day after California’s top health official, Dr. Mark Ghali, warned that Halloween and other holidays will look much different this year because of the coronavirus, kids, parents and even pumpkin farmers are making adjustments.
加州最高卫生官员马克·加利博士(Mark Ghali)警告说，由于冠状病毒，今年万圣节和其他节日看起来会大不相同，孩子、父母甚至南瓜种植者都在做出调整。
“My sister is obsessed with Halloween,” said Brooklyn Baker, of Sacramento. “I take her to the Halloween store often.”

Baker was Halloween shopping on Wednesday with her little sister Harlem, who is planning to be a ghost this year. But trick-or-treating will have a different look and feel for the Baker family.

“I'm not comfortable with the door-to-door,” Baker told KCRA 3. “I don't think my mom is comfortable with the door-to-door either. Probably (we'll) do more of maybe a few houses buy some candy of our own, do our own little thing.”

Many people have reservations about celebrating Halloween this year in the traditional way. Autumn Bunyard of Sacramento told KCRA 3 she’s planning on making some changes for her daughter.

“We're going to do trick-or-treating at home in our apartment complex with a neighbor instead of door-to-door,” Bunyard said.

Luis Barragan, father of a 4-year-old, told KCRA 3 he’s not comfortable with his daughter knocking on doors. Instead, he said, “We’re just going to hang out and eat candy, mostly for the kids.”

Big changes are coming to farms this year, including Cool Patch Pumpkins in Dixon, where the main attraction is the corn maze. But visitors will now find the walkway through the maze has doubled in size to allow for more social distancing.

“We've made the maze itself, instead of a 5-foot path, (now) a 10-foot path,” said Matt Cooley of Cool Patch Pumpkins.

And other popular attractions will also be put on hold due to concerns about COVID.

And with COVID always top of mind, pumpkin farmers do have the great outdoors to offer, along with wide open spaces to make their visitors feel comfortable and safe.

For farmers, fall is the busy season. Cool Patch Pumpkins plans to open for business starting Sept. 26 and going until Halloween.

In the meantime, candy sellers are gearing up for what they hope will be a big season. A poll released by the National Confectioners Association revealed that 80% of the general public and 90% of millennial moms and young parents say they can’t imagine Halloween without chocolate and candy, and that trick-or-treating is irreplaceable.
