Crews battle grass fire near Sacramento International Airport
Crews are battling a grass fire that sparked Tuesday afternoon near Sacramento International Airport, officials said.
The fire ignited near Elverta and Power Line roads, according to the Sacramento Fire Department. The flames consumed 800 acres.
Drift smoke is affecting Interstate 5 traffic, prompting the California Highway Patrol to close part of the interstate near the fire. The highway has since reopened, but "smoke is still very much in the area. Continue to drive with caution," CHP tweeted later.
Multiple downed power lines prompted CHP to close Elkhorn Boulevard from Highway 99 to Metro Air Parkway. It's unclear when the roadway will reopen.
Firefighters are still at the scene to mop up the area, the fire department said.
Officials are asking people to avoid the area while crews battle the fire.

I-5 reopens after fire near Sacramento International Airport forces closures
SACRAMENTO COUNTY, Calif. (KTXL) — A wind-swept grass fire burning near Sacramento International Airport prompted some road closures and shut down part of Interstate 5 Tuesday afternoon.
The Sacramento Fire Department says the fire grew to roughly 850 acres and impacted some structures in the area.
Around 100 firefighters battled the blaze and are now mopping up hotspots, according to the fire department.
The California Highway Patrol has since said both directions of I-5 at Highway 99 and Airport Boulevard have reopened.
Officials are still warning drivers to be cautious while traveling through the smoke.
The CHP says Elkhorn Boulevard from Highway 99 to Metro Air Parkway is still closed as they try to clear power lines that have fallen in the roadway. Officials do not know when the roadway will be reopened.
It was not immediately known what started the fire but a Red Flag Warning is in effect for much of the state due to dangerous fire conditions, including gusty winds and low humidity.
