Multiple Sacramento school employees were sent to a hospital Thursday after a large fight between students that led to a lockdown, officials said.

A spokesperson with the Sacramento City Unified School District said the fight happened somewhere on Hiram Johnson High School's campus involving multiple students. Once school staff tried breaking up the fight, even more students jumped in.

The school district said it issued a temporary lockdown and called first responders, including Sacramento police officers, "to help restore safety and treat school staff who sustained injuries."

Injured staff members were sent to a local hospital for treatment, the district said. There will be extra security and staff on campus tomorrow.

Counselors will also be available for students who require emotional support after the fight, the district said.

"The students who were involved in fighting will face appropriate disciplinary action following the Sac City Unified School District's policy and California Education Code," the district said in a release.
