（KCRA）Counties expand vaccine eligibility as appointments go unfilled

Any Placer County resident 16 years and older is now eligible to get a COVID-19 vaccine.
任何年满16岁的Placer县居民现在都有资格接种COVID-19疫苗。
The county opened eligibility to that group starting Monday after officials said appointments weren't getting filled.

"It just went by in 5 seconds," said Joey Sharer, 17, who got the shot. "It was super-fast. It seemed like such a big deal for something so small to happen. It didn’t hurt as bad, honestly, as a normal flu shot usually would."

Placer joins several other Northern California counties that have expanded eligibility ahead of the state's expected expansion of anyone ages 16 and older starting this Thursday.

Contra Costa County: 16 years and older

Stanislaus County: 16 years and older
Sutter County: 18 years and older
Yuba County 18 years and older
A spokesperson for Yolo County said officials are considering expanding eligibility before statewide guidelines change later this week.

The county did not say exactly when that could happen.

"I think now is the time where we really need to push and make sure, 'Yes, you are eligible. Yes, you do need to get the vaccine,'" said Yolo County spokesperson Jenny Tan.

Tan said vaccine supply is meeting demand as more places begin offering shots.
