National Guard troops arrived at the state Capitol in Sacramento on Saturday in preparation for possible protests on the days leading up to Inauguration Day.

On Thursday, Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a general order authorizing the 1,000 National Guard personnel to protect “critical infrastructure,” including the state Capitol, according to a release from the governor’s office.
