Protesters converge on California Capitol, 11 arrested

Eleven people were arrested for illegal possession of pepper spray during protests at the Capitol on Wednesday, Sacramento police said.

The protests by supporters of President Donald Trump against the results of the presidential election coincided with demonstrations elsewhere in the country, including in Washington D.C., where violent demonstrators stormed the U.S. Capitol.

In Sacramento, "some physical altercations between two groups of demonstrators have been reported," police said. But police later cited just one report of a demonstrator assaulted. There were no reported injuries.

Sacramento police closed some roads and urged the public to take alternate routes while the demonstration was underway.

Some physical altercations between two groups of demonstrators have been reported. Officers remain in the area and are attempting to keep the groups separate.

There were several different groups in attendance, including people wearing black-and-yellow " roud Boys" shirts in support of the far-right extremist group.
