Authorities are investigating how someone died after 90% of a human skeleton was found in a Sacramento County storm drain this week, the sheriff's office said.

On Tuesday, county workers were cleaning out a storm drain on a vacant lot on Gordon Drive just off Stockton Boulevard and were using a large vacuum-type machine to clean up sediment, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office.

When they went to empty the vacuum, workers found a shoe with bones inside.

Deputies determined the bones were human. The coroner's office was then called out, and, eventually, 90% of a skeleton was found in the area.
