（KCRA）Amid the novel coronavirus pandemic, more restaurants in Sacramento County are offering Thanksgiving meals to go.

At Camden Spit & Larder on Capitol Mall, owner and chef Oliver Ridgeway already has dozens of turkeys dunked in brine ahead of the holiday.

“I decided to do whole roasts turkeys with stuffing, cranberry sauce and gravy, kind of the heart of things to make,” Ridgeway said.

Demand for Thanksgiving takeout is so high that Ridgeway said they sold out of turkey meals on Wednesday. Now, they are expanding the menu and will start offering both savory meat pies, like steak and ale pie and chicken, leek and bacon pie, as well as dessert pies for pickup Thanksgiving week.

At Matteo’s Pizza & Bistro in Carmichael, they are offering classic Thanksgiving favorites along with some less traditional dishes including appetizers like house-made beef wellington and crab cakes, seafood and pizza.

“A little bit more interesting, a little more out there for the people that aren’t as interested in turkey,” said Kyle Wisner who works at Matteo’s.

Thanksgiving orders at Matteo’s have to be placed by Nov 22. While the restaurant offers wine and food every Thanksgiving, Wisner said they expanded their menu this year.

“People are feeling stressed right now,” he said. “And that’s why we’re here. We want to take the stress away from people and families and just make sure that they can enjoy each other and not be locked in the kitchen all day.”

At Localis in Midtown Sacramento, owner and chef Chris Barnum said he wants to make sure everyone has the option to treat themselves this Thanksgiving.

“We really thought about the person that maybe doesn’t have family around or doesn’t have family at all. So, we’re offering a per diner dinner this year,” he said. “Brussels sprout hash and wild mushroom pilaf and duck confit instead of turkey.”

“Because we’re in survival mode. We’re not going to make it if we don’t find a way to generate revenue, and this is a good way to help people not have to cook,” he said. “For us, it’s something that we have to do.”

People can place their orders through Localis until Monday. Barnum said he is weathering the pandemic one day at a time.

“I just wish that we could start, as restaurants, we could start seeing contact tracing and numbers that verify there’s a reason that everyone is shut down,” he said. “I personally know 10 friends of mine who have closed restaurants forever, and it’s such a scary thing. And like I said, we’re doing Thanksgiving because we’re trying to survive.”
