House Speaker Nancy Pelosi claimed she was the victim of a “setup” by the San Francisco hair salon where she went for an appointment Monday despite local ordinances not allowing salons to open until the following day due to the coronavirus pandemic.

On Wednesday, Pelosi said she takes full responsibility for falling for the setup but believes the salon owner owed her an apology for the incident, USA Today reports.

“I take responsibility for trusting the word of the neighborhood salon that I have been to many times,” Pelosi told reporters during a press conference. “When they said they could accommodate people one at a time, and we can set up that time, I trusted that.”

Her response came after Fox News released closed-circuit TV footage showing the Democratic leader walking inside the salon without wearing a mask after getting her hair washed. The stylist walked behind her while wearing a face mask.

The video was timestamped Monday, a day before San Francisco allowed salons and other businesses to reopen. Pelosi’s spokesperson Drew Hamill said she briefly took off her mask to allow the stylist to wash her hair.

ESalonSF owner Erica Kious sat down with Tucker Carlson following Nancy Pelosi’s statement. Kious spoke to the host of "Tucker Carlson Tonight," where she called the Democrat’s accusation “absolutely false.”

The salon owner said the security camera footage recorded a “display of hypocrisy.” She also dismissed setup allegations, saying she did not turn on the camera system to record the House Speaker.

Kious said it was never her intention to make a political statement when she decided to release the footage. She also claimed she received death threats and hate text messages after the video of the incident went viral. Some people allegedly threatened to burn down her hair salon.
