As of Wednesday evening, the fires, called the LNU Lightning Complex, had consumed 360,868 acres with 33% containment, Cal Fire reported.

The LNU Lightning Complex fires ignited 6:40 a.m. Aug. 17 due to lightning strikes in Napa and Sonoma counties. The fires then spread to Lake, Solano and Yolo counties.

Five people have been killed in the LNU Lightning Complex fires, Cal Fire said. Three Napa County residents and two Solano County residents have died. Four others were injured, Cal Fire said.

The complex is now the third largest wildfire incident in California history, scorching more than the Thomas Fire that consumed 281,893 acres in Ventura and Santa Barbara counties in December 2017, according to Cal Fire records.

Thousands of people were evacuated in the five counties due to the wildfires.

On Wednesday, Yolo County officials ordered mandatory evacuations near Rumsey and Cache Creek Canyon Regional Park after the wildfire jumped Highway 16.

The Yocha Dehe Fire Department posted on Facebook an update on the fire and the evacuations.

"In the upper section of Rumsey near CR 40, the LNU Lightning Complex Fires have jumped Highway 16. Hwy 16 is now closed between CR41A and CR20, and evacuations have begun in this area. The fire prompted mandatory evacuations of Travis Air Force Base in Fairfield on Aug. 19. The evacuations were lifted two days later.

Cal Fire said Wednesday night that "extreme fire behavior" with short- and long-range spotting is continuing to hamper firefighting efforts.

"The Hennessey and Walbridge Fires continue to make runs in several directions, impacting surrounding communities," Cal Fire said in a Wednesday evening report.

On Wednesday afternoon, the fire burning in Yolo County jumped the fire line at Highway 16, threatening nearby small towns. Cal Fire said there are not a lot of structures in the area.

A KCRA 3 crew at the scene of the fire said flames have engulfed both sides of the highway.

After igniting last week, the fires kicked up the night of Aug. 18, the Vacaville Fire Department said. There were winds up to 30 mph that pushed the flames from Napa County into the outskirts of downtown Vacaville — right up to the backs of homes.
