(KCRA)ROSEVILLE, Calif. —At Roseville Motorsports, the phone doesn't stop ringing and sales associates are nonstop with customers looking to buy a motorcycle, ATV or jet ski.

The locally owned dealership has been in business for 18 years, and in April and May set new sales records.

"We did double the volume of last year. To see the numbers jump that high and especially with the circumstances and the whole COVID-19, it’s pretty incredible," said Shelby Smith, sales administrator at Roseville Motorsports.

The sales stories are similar at area boat and RV dealers. Sales associates say many of the customers are first-time buyers looking for a way to recreate this summer after travel plans were canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Boat dealers are also reporting record sales as inventory has become a challenge.

"I talked to one manufacturer the other day, who sells small fiberglass boats, who said they doubled their sales compared to last year in the month of May. Which is extraordinary," said Ellen Bradley, director of the National Marine Manufacturers Association.

Dealer have reported that first-time buyers are looking for a way to safely enjoy the summer break while concerns over coronavirus still remain an issue.

" eople are finding that boating is a really ideal way to maintain social distancing, and people I think are looking for the ability to control their environment right now. With boating, you choose where you go, when you go, who you bring on your boat," said Bradley.

Inventory on popular boat and RV sizes has become a challenge as some manufacturers shut down for several months during the peak of COVID-19 spread. Buyers also reported a hot resale market on used boats and RVs.
